The Centre at Halifax Community College Hosts a Variety of Great Programming

Man of Constant Sorrow was one of the performances at The Centre.
The Family Fun Series at The Centre opens with a H.I.T.!
The acronym stands for the Halifax Inflatable Tour‚ coming to The Centre at Halifax Community College on Sept. 15.
Kids of all ages will have a ball watching the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Company with its big‚ blow-up people and animals. The fun continues outside‚ where Party Town USA will provide inflatable rides for kids to do some bouncing of their own.
The Family Fun Series is the newest addition to a roster of quality programming at The Centre. In 2006‚ The Centre offered its first Mainstage Series community concerts.
“The response from the community has been fabulous‚” says Centre Executive Director Jason Stewart. “We sold over 125 Mainstage Series season tickets (in 2006)‚ and we plan to more than double that for the 2007-08 season.”
Although the upcoming line-up has not been finalized‚ Stewart says The Centre hopes to present Riders in the Sky‚ the North Carolina Dance Theatre and A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline‚ among other shows.
Additional regular programming includes First Friday Acoustic Jam – featuring local musicians – and History in a Bag‚ lunchtime presentations about North Carolina history co-sponsored by the Roanoke Canal Museum and Trail.
The Centre boasts state-of-the-art sound‚ lighting‚ scenery and production equipment‚ and the overall design‚ featuring 451 fixed and 1‚034 retractable seats‚ enables the performance hall to double as an events center.
“When the seats are retracted‚ the space left open becomes a 6‚000-square-foot multipurpose room‚ perfect for catered events‚ expos and conferences‚” Stewart says. “The gallery or lobby of The Centre is large enough for a 100-person seated dinner and has been used many times for weddings and meeting space. The building itself is tremendously versatile.”
